What is Plastic Media Stripping?

cot-359-06-unc-004

PMS (Plastic Media Stripping) is a process from the US for the rapid safe removal of coatings from almost any product. PMS does not use hard abrasives, the process uses recyclable plastic particles that are pneumatically applied at low pressure. Because the particles are harder than coatings but softer that the underlying substrates  PMS can quickly remove primers and top coats without damaging sensitive substrates, such as aluminium, titanium, magnesium and composites, Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) where chemical strippers cannot be used.

There are many different types of media:

     Type I- Polyester the softest
Type II-Urea used on soft metals
     Type III- Melamine very hard
Type IV- clear Polyester harder than Type I used on composites
Type V- Acrylic the most popular type used on Aircraft skins

What are the advantages of PMS

Quicker, less waste, more environmentally friendly no chemicals used, better for the individual’s health, less hazardous process, less substrate damage if process is carried out correctly.
